The Center for Mathematics and Science Education (CMSE) and the Office of Pre-College Programs in the Division of Outreach at the University of Mississippi announces its 10th annual Math Camp summer program for students who will be in the 5th – 8th grades.

The Math Camp program is a five-day, four-night, camp designed for middle school students who show a significant need for a positive learning experience and a deeper understanding of concepts in mathematics. Teachers can recommend up to two students per class taught whom they feel meet such criteria and whom would most likely benefit from the camp.

The goals of the program are to inspire in students a real interest and to improve their performance in mathematics. Math Camp instruction concentrates on Geometry and Measurement concepts aligning with the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards for Mathematics and the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Process Standards. While the main focus is on mathematics, students will also gain a better understanding of science concepts and the capabilities of technology.

The Math Camp accepted four GCS students: Chloe McDonald, Andrew Adcock, Darrius Speight, and Quantavious Gray. “I really enjoyed my time at the Math Camp, because the information was very helpful,” stated Chloe. Each year, GCS students looks forward to attending the camp.
