In the middle of June, a group of eight volunteers came from San Jose, California to share their love for Christ as they led a VBS (Vacation Bible School), painted two rooms in the church, and lined a basket- ball court for Grace Christian School.

The theme of the VBS was serving. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to
give His life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45) The morning program included worship, a Bible lesson, outside play, and crafts. In the afternoon, the Californians worked alongside the children to show the eager participants how to serve others. The older children helped elderly people in the community with projects around their house. Meanwhile, the younger children served the church by helping to prepare rooms to be painted and then coated the walls with a fresh layer of paint, helped to weed a flower bed at one of MOM’s ministry houses, and cleaned different areas in the church. They experienced what it feels like to help OTHERS.

Throughout this week, the children also had fun as they created tie dye shirts, ate snacks that related to the lesson they learned, and even went on a field trip to the Children’s Museum in Jackson, MS.

After VBS was done for the day, the Californians would work inside and further prepare rooms to be painted (and eventually did the detailed paint work). Not only was the California crew teaching the kids how to serve, but being an example of how to serve.
