Meet Melony Posey!
Melony graduated from Belhaven University with a B.S. in Music. However, she worked 15 years for
a local bank. According to Melony, banking was not fulfilling her life; therefore, she left her position at the bank and returned to college to pursue her dream with a master’s degree in Speech Therapy.
Melony works with many students, focusing on receptive language, or the ability to understand spoken and expressive language, and the ability to use words to express themselves. She also teaches the mechanics of producing words, such as articulation, pitch, fluency and volume.
When children need speech therapy, it may involve pursuing milestones that have been delayed. Some children need help with language only, while others need help with the mechanics of speech. Additionally, others need help with multiple facets of speech, language and swallowing.
For the last two years, Melony has been working with her students who have transferred to GCS from other schools. Each visit Melony made to GCS, she noticed significant positive changes in the students. Although Melony remained silent on GCS’ impact, she continued to observe. This school year, Melony worried that two of her transfer students would not be able to maintain regular class requirements.
Three months later, Melony was shocked and said, “I will never say what a student can’t do when one transfers to GCS. It is amazing what GCS is doing!” Melony is so excited, she is telling anyone who will listen about the work God is doing at GCS among the students.
“You can tell when someone cares about you,”states Melony. She believes the basic fundamentals of GCS success is loving each child unconditionally. Melony is currently seeking to enroll a third grade student at GCS.
