Each year, the students at GCS look forward to a visit from the local fire department. However, this year, we were able to take the students to go visit two fire departments!

The firefighters allowed each student to tour the inside of the fire trucks, spray water from the fire hoses, and sound the fire truck siren. For the kindergarten and first grade classes, this was better than going to the candy store! The excitement of the students is at an all-time high when- ever they are around fire trucks.
fire trucks.

Firefighters are passionate when it comes to fire prevention. They look forward to opportunities to give practical lifesaving methods and advice, and GCS looks forward to receiving the information. Across the country, firefighters conduct an endless variety of fire prevention programs for elementary school children.

Our Fire Departments in Magee and Mount Olive love to meet and talk to the children, show them safety videos and run through bedroom mock-up to teach them how to escape their homes in the event of a fire. These programs are
designed for children to make them aware of fire safety and preventing emergency situations which are often the cause of the majority of fire deaths.

GCS kindergarten and first grade students were so excited to get back to school to continue discussing the activities of the fire trucks! They couldn’t wait to take the message home and share what they had learned that day at the fire departments in Magee and Mount Olive!
